Dude Ranches have been opening up the West for people of the world since the late 1800’s and while things have changed and ranches are much more comfortable, they maintain a firm grip on what makes ranches different and special from an ordinary vacation. Dude Ranches that began as working ranches found they were hosting more and more family and friends from “the East”. Before too long ranchers were inviting tourists to become guests. Soon the ranches had become pioneers in Western Tourism and hospitality. Guests today find trains and stagecoaches have given way to planes and automobiles; bunkhouse cots, kerosene lamps and beef and beans have been replaced by comfy beds, electricity and varied menus. But the horses, hats and hospitality of dude ranching is unchanged.
